Biography

Jeff Lang is one of the most captivating guitarists of our time; a songwriter of great craft and power, a gutsy and sensitive singer, and one of Australia's burgeoning musical exports. The road Jeff Lang has travelled over this past decade has yielded the rewards of many a hard-working musician's dreams -- widespread acclaim, a devoted fan base, an exemplary back catalogue, an ARIA Award, invitations to the world's most prestigious festivals, and coveted tours with such icons as Jeff Beck, Clapton and Dylan.

Lang's latest album Chimeradour is a spectral and many-faceted sonic journey which explores the many rich influences he has absorbed and transformed in his ever-evolving sound. From African desert blues to driving guitar rock, rolling hypnotic lap slide guitar work and expansive jazz modalities, Chimeradour is a vital new Australian album which will cement Lang's reputation as a supremely gifted guitarist and songwriter.

Acclaim has been heaped on Lang's recent side project Djan Djan, a stunning collaboration with Malian kora player Mamadou Diabate and Indian-Australian tabla master, Bobby Singh. The Djan Djan mini-album debut is an astonishingly beautiful three-way conversation between guitar, kora and tabla; the result of a musical alchemy that has held audiences in awe all around Australia.

By bending and blurring genres to create his own ever-evolving sound from the base ingredients of Folk, Rock, Blues, Experimental and World music styles, Lang is a singularly unique performer who has defied categorisation. Lang has built up a devoted, almost cult-like, following with his magical live performances, which have made word of mouth bloom into a successful career.

Lang has spent much of the past two years touring all corners of the world with his virtuosic accompanists, Grant Cummerford on bass and Danny McKenna on drums. Most recently, the trio toured China and performed at the Fuji Rock and Asagari Jam Festivals (Japan), Safiko World Music Festival (Reunion Islands), Womadelaide and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. Lang was also the first artist in residence of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival.

An international reputation and a loyal fan base are two of the rewards which have come from Lang's constant touring in the US, Europe and Australia. He remains a favourite on the Australian festival circuit, and has enjoyed national airplay, rave reviews, multiple ARIA nominations and the respect of his peers around the world. With a back catalogue of 13 albums, Lang is signed to ABC/Warner in Australia and his albums have been released all over the world.
